baiting?? i was under the impression that you were looking to have a real discussion, i didnt know you were just looking to troll the forum. and somehow, you admitting that all your posts on this thread were nothing more than trolling is supposed to make you feel good about yourself ???

Originally posted by Mike BrewerDick I was having a real discussion right up until you stopped discussing reasons for your criticisms. I just asked why you felt the need to say that the kid in that video was training irresponsibly, and you turned it into "Mike doesn't know how to grapple." It's pretty plain that you'd rather talk smack about me than back up your opinions, so I didn't see a need to continue to ask you for real input. I know you probably feel bad that I pointed out that kid's competitive spirit far exceeds your own, and I know I said I could respect his will to improvise and win unconventionally more than your desire to play it safe. I can see where that would have put you on the defensive, so I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you feel inadequate.
But no, the discussion stopped when you got your knickers in a twist and refused to talk about your opinions. Look back, and I'm sure you'll see where it happened. I explained my own opinions, and then I asked you to delve into your opinions, and you started telling me how little I know about grappling, remember? Well, for the sake of resuming discussion,
Let's say I have never grappled, never punched, never done one thing martial. Does that somehow mean I am not qualified to judge competitive instinct? I don't care if that kid was riding a throw or doing a triple lutz. The point was not the technique, but the facts that (a) he was not injured, and (b) he won the match. Please explain to me how it makes any difference at all - even a little bit - whether an observer can tell you what the technique was.
if by any chance that its not, just re-read the thread yourself mike. you are the one who starts with the personal attacks in post 20, by trying to say the kid has more balls than me. you are free to think what you want about me, but that is the point in the thread were you began to shift the discussion away from the clip and focus more on what you perceive to be my character flaws. and you did this right after i pointed out to you that the 2 techniques were no the same. you can not handle being corrected, i did so with no ego or intention of belittling you, and so you have to make personal attacks. this is a poor display of self control.

Originally posted by Mike BrewerYeah, I did read it. It's not an insult to say the kid has more balls than you do, Dick. You've been saying the same thing all along with all of your posts about "I'd never take those kinds of risks." How is it that you can be all offended by my repeating something you said about yourself? You said you would never take those risks, and that winning a high school wrestling match wasn't worth it to you. It was to that kid, and so he did take a risk. How am I wrong for saying that he has more balls than you? At least in this instance...doesn't he?
And it's not about being corrected, either. The point was never differences in technique, and making it about that was a distraction from the real issue we'd been talking about: risk. I didn't post the Rickson clip because it was the same move that kid used. I posted it because it was unconventional, more dangerous than some of the things you might normally see in an MMA ring, and - here's the important part - not something he probably trained a great deal. In other words, the similarity was in the fact that Rickson pulled that off because it was a "feel of the moment" type move; same as the high school kid. It wasn't a comparison of techniques, Dick. It was a comparison of attitudes.
I wonder why you didn't feel a need to "correct me" about Genki Sudo. The showy, risky, unconventional techniques he used were nothing like that high school kid. Maybe I figured break dancing in the ring or doing cartwheel kicks was the same as doing backflips in high school wrestling.
So finally, I'll deal with this whole notion of your character flaws. I didn't say they were flaws. I just said I'd rather learn a competitive sport from a competitor. You said yourself that you wouldn't take risks in competition, and that you had no desire to be a competitive fighter, didn't you? Why, then, would I want to take advice from you on a competitive sport? I may have restated it more abrasively, but every criticism I made of you, you first made of yourself. As for the idea that you were being humble and not belittling me when you criticized my training?
Gosh, Dick. If you had no intention of belittling, and within just a few short posts, you ended up saying things like that, it shows an awful lack of self-control, doesn't it.
