Hi im 14 and want to be a mma fighter. I train myself in boxing at my house(have had pro training before but they closed the gym.) I have a small gym set up in my garage that includes everything a normal gym has. I also in 1 week are going to start a jj class. Im training like this till my 18 birthday, then im going to fight at a small amature show. My question is is there anything else i need to do to be fully prepared.(would working out with the wrestling team once or twice a week be smart? thanx!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would join the wrestling team and whoop all the other kids. You can make a name and get good hype comming to the MMA scene if you were all american and state champ. Plus it will get you in real good shape and use to performing for crowds.

Im not going to join the team cause that would take away from my boxing training. But if they let me i will work out with them once or twice a week. Sound good

Working out with them may be cool, but I know that they usually make you join the team or they have a roster for the guys that can practice and won't let other practice with them for insurance reasons.

You might want to go to an outside source as the JJ or BJJ class to get the grappling expirence. Get a Roman Grecko coach for body control, take downs, and defense.

You won't learn anything from only working out with them two times a week. Wrestling requires dedication or you're not going to get anything from it. Go ahead and join the wrestling team and work out with them everyday. You'll pick up technique, body/hip movement, and an intense full body workout. You can do your boxing stuff after wrestling practice.

Join your high school wrestling team. Most schools have a wrestling team.

you can't become a fighter on your terms, it doesn't work like that. Discipline, commitment and sacrifice are not designed to fit around the convenience of your life.

Much like your bare knuckle ambitions (bit short lived weren't they?!) I don't think you have an understanding of being a fighter.

yeah you need to work with people.
You need to work on range, timing, reactions and rhythm.

You cant do any of those well without training with someone on a regular basis. You have to be using movement that you arent dictating, following someone while striking, timing their and your movements so you can land your strikes or when to shoot for a takedown. you need learn to react to shots you havent been told are coming and you need to find the rhythm.
the ability to move in time with what your partner is doing and your own body moving in a coordinated way, its all very well doing that in a mirror but you must be able to do this against a live opponent.

Quite simply you will never win a single fight because everyone else is doing what you listed a ton more with a partner. In fact with many different partners. thats the reality of it.

anyway i think you are wasting your time, go to clubs that teach you and just enjoy life.

I understand that but my parents have agreed to let me take the jj class and i HAVE TO work on the striking at home. i don't plan on fighting for 3or 4 years. SO please if you have training tips give them to me and quite telling me i cant train like i am. I work my butt off at home and nobody on this forum understands that.

imo youd do better workng purely on cardio and in a year or two working on physical strength then later on technique, i think you run the risk of developing bad habits.

Honestly, go in during wrestling practice and see if you can beat a 3rd or 4th year wrestler. If you can crush them with ease then we will gladly withdraw our statements and tell you to continue your in-home training. However, I am willing to bet you a hundred dollars that you will lose time after time against these wrestlers. Why? Because they got to where they are not only through set instruction, but from constantly wrestling with someone going 100%.

Also, what's this freestyle jiu jitsu that you're doing?

Come on, man, I lay down 100 clams (which is equivalent to 40 billion dollars to a poor college student like me) and you throw up $20 ? *cough*cheap*cough* lol.
