    - I dont claim to be able able to kick ass, but I have some skillz. Far as beating you up, I probably couldnt, but there are guys in BJJ that would twist you into a pretzle with ease. You might wanna have some ground game, because if any of those guys had gotten you down, you be finished, assuming they were any good at all. For brawling in a bar room, striking skillz would be best, I agree, I would rather follow Tyson outta the brawl than Rickson.
There is a video, I ll look for it, of a bouncer being submitted by a BJJ guy in a bar, he gets knee-barred if I remember right.

i never said i didnt have ground skills you assumed it...btw if i were caught in a knee bar...and nothing else worked a little structural cutting would soon cause that to be released...in the real world when a submission technique is applied you might want to realize that while you consider fights to end at submission some people believe they end in death...i am not a kid and i dont fight in the ring...if we are fighting i assume you are out to hospitalize me or worse...so i tend to respond in kind...except i aint trying to make you cry uncle...i have heard a few guys whining for mommie later though...ever tried ground work where the other guy has a rubber knife? what about both of you with knives?
i have, its not a real good idea.....we practice it because it is a possibility, a horrifying one...the worst case scenario is being caught on the ground and stomped, stabbed, and mauled with no where to go....i think i will do everything in my power to aviod being on the ground so these things dont occur thanks...

i still dont get it why Gracie´s get so much hate in the usa and this forum....
what the guy was tryin to say is that if it had to come down to style vs style Gracie jiu jitsu would definetly kick everyones ass. i know royce beat all those opponents ten years ago, but it just proved that gracie jiu jitsu beat all the other styles the others were practicing. Plus royce helped MMA be MMA how it is today by adding the ground game. so stop the hating and start congratulating

why does it get so much flack? because of statements like this....

"if it had to come down to style vs style Gracie jiu jitsu would definetly kick everyones ass."

bjj exploited a weakness in mcdojo training and striking...it is one of the tools EVERY Ring fighter should know...it is far less important for non sport related fights however.
so yes bjj exposed the weakness of other sport fighters in the ring...great job...but since we are giving out kudos...wrestling pointed out bjj sucked at takedowns...(probably because you start on the ground) so good job wrestling...Sombo pointed out Bjj sucked at leg locks....good job sombo...
and oh yeah gjj pointed out that traditional martial arts needed to update thier threat analysis and training...thank you KIMURA.

You think a kneebar is about crying uncle?

A kneebar is about breaking your knee!

Yeah!! You get it! LOL The difference between submission and destruction is INTENT and a few extra pounds (Kilos) of torque.

Hence the need for a tool. I don't think he was talking about cutting off his own leg to escape.

Generally even the mighty Gracie (clan) will admit a weapon easily defeats Jiu-Jitsu.

Except for Helio (who thinks the BJJ is like a bullet proof shield)

Takedowns is just 50% of a fight, if you remain conscious after a take down their so much a BJJ practitioner can do in the ground while wrestlers cant
As for sambo i cant really discuss about it but i do know it is another very effective martial art out there nowadays, but i happened to have learned BJJ.......
And as for kimura, helio was outweighed by 70 pds i believe. i would love to see a judo master purist and a 70+ pds BJJ master purist go at it and see if the judoka could last as long as helio did with kimura and also kimura practiced a different more updated Judo ,kind of what BJJ branched off too (they both come from the same Judo) ,only that it emphasized more on throws...
                excuse my english again

even if you dont want to believe it weight does matter, modern mma has all of the weight divisions you could think of. eventhough martial arts main concept is to take down people who are twice your size believe it or not it does matter once the person your fighting knows martial arts as well...you do not have to believe in what im saying again it is an opnion...

It doesn't matter because Helio challenged him knowing that Kimura was a heavyweight wrestler and champion Judoka. He just bit off more than he could chew!

tell me when did i mention bullet proof shield please.. i cant recall
and also give me more information on why 70 pds is not much of a weight difference and why you think weight divisions are useless..then i will take you in consideration

in a way he knew he was going to lose, he said it was going to be a victory for him if he lasted more than 3 minutes with kimura(which he did, there was a second round), becuz none of his challengers never lasted for more than 3 minutes...also kimura was a beast it is said he trained with trees to fortify his throws (hips shoulders etc)
also in a show i saw on helio in brazilian television he clearly stated that he never was much of a competitive fighter, he was more of a Martial artist philosopher and liked putting his modifications on the art to the test

You didnt call gjj a bullet proof shield, your hero Helio did....hahahaha

so what you are saying is if someone with 70 lbs on you attacks you, you are screwed huh?
maybe thats why i question its validity on the street...i cant pick my attackers size and training level or restrict his weapon usage or his friends joining in...
see im about 200 lbs and many of the bikers i deal with weigh 300 or more lbs...go ahead slap your best arm bar on one...break his arm...piss him off good....he will stack you up against a wall and step/stomp on you face or throat with boots....repeatedly...until you are a mashed bloody pile of debris in the corner...seen it happen sonny, several times...you may practice no holds barred but in the streets its no attacks or weapons barred....btw i was taught that sticking my finger in your nostril and my thumb in the eye socket was a hold...havent seen that one in your NHB... or picking a guy up by his dick and throat and slamming him on the pool table isnt that a hold? grabbing an ear and ripping it off isnt that a hold?
just because you break a guys arm it doesnt necessarily end the fight...except when the ref does it for you...note in some of your own ring events where people continued to fight with a broken arm...now imagine its more than bragging rights on the line.... ...you might wanna learn an art designed to put people down and out instead of one designed to make em tapp out. unless of course you want to study a sport designed for a ring, in that case have a blast...but dont delude yourself that Gjj is the "be all end all"to a street fight.
