there are specific distinctions and differences between Mixed Martial Arts and Street Self Defense Systems. They are different because one is for Sport/Submission and the other is for Street Survival. This is not to say that MMA (sport training systems) don't offer excellent street fighting skills, they do, but the application of these sport techniques must be modified for street self defense encounters, (i.e. not deliberately going to the ground - against multiple attackers, open hand strikes vs. closed fist strikes without gloves) and additional training must be incorporated to deal with weapon defenses, ambush attack training and legally accountable use of force, to mention a few *.
