why no kung fu art can defeat mma

This comes back to whole debate about what would win in a fight - Bear or a shark. You can't truly know because they fight in different environments under different conditions. I have known kung fu practitioners to destroy MMA guys and I have seen other MMA guys destroy kung fu guys.

It depends a lot on the individual, their size, the length of time they have trained etc

It was claimed that Yip Man was once one of the best street fighters in the world. Bruce Lee was a pure kung fu practitioner before he came to the States.

I know there is a lot of mythology around these two individuals, but I think people are underestimating kung fu completely.

MMA practitioners (especially professionals) spend most of their time training to hit and kick or submit people. A lot of kung fu artists don't. There are a few exceptions within kung fu (wing chun, preying mantis) which are explosive and dangerous even to an MMA guy

And another thing that bothers me is when people say "off of", as in "I had to take this hat off of my head".

The correct English would be " I had to take this hat off my head"

And back to the actual topic about Kung Fu vs MMA fighters......

I think that it is an unfair comparison to pit a practitioner of 1 martial art eg Kung Fu against and MMA fighter who trains in a variety of Martial Arts and then "brag" how Kung Fu cant beat it

Wing Chun is not complete. It comes close because it works long range short range, includes punching (palming, chops etc), kicking, clinchwork, forms, weapons the whole lot.

Arts like Muay Thai come close as well.

That is what the statement means. But you are too arrogant to understand that. Anything wing chun related must be bad according to you.

I have never gone onto any site and made a general statement that an art is crap because I know that even the ones that I am not keen on (Tae Kwon Do) can be good

At the end of the day you can use anything in MMA, but there are those who believe that their style can cover all bases.

I spend a lot of time on wing chun forums arguing with practitioners who won't accept that wing chun alone won't survive in cages.

Kung fu is really designed to fight other kung fu styles. Wing chun tried to break the mold/mould, but even Bruce Lee found that his wing chun wasn't a perfect art when he travelled to America

No art is 'complete' although I find that wing chun comes very close, ie you can fight short range, clinch and even long range if you adjust the style a bit. But there are holes - groundwork for example

I think martial artists have to accept that their art would be a whole lot more better if they understood/knew other arts. I have done a few martial arts that I don't always practice but understanding them has helped me further my wing chun/grappling/muay thai.

Lets not go crazy, the group of styles that makes up the sport of MMA is Muay thai, Boxing, wrestling, Judo/sambo/Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Ofcoarse each fighter may have some other martial arts background but those are the core arts/combat sports that are needed to be trained

Well after flicking through this thread i have come across so much BULLSHIT eg Chinese Jujitsu and good work to all the members who slated the people for typing it.

First of all i would like to say that title "why no kung fu art can defeat mma" is stupid. For the creator of this topic MMA stands for Mixed Martial Arts therefore it is possble that some MMA fighters may even train in chinese martial arts and they beat each other. Also you seem to create the impression that you think MMA is a single martial art style well ......

You are just plain wrong. Irregardless is not a correct word, even if it it used all the time. Same as "Ain't". "Off of" is saying the same thing twice. If I say to take the hat "off" my head, I have already addressed the word, the location and the action. Same as "I can't get this song out of my head". You can say "I cannot get this song from my head" and be correct.

I guess it really does not matter in the long run, but we speak English. We should at least try to speak it correctly, or we are just being lazy as Jubaji pointed out. It does not take that much of an extra effort to speak and write correctly.

Actually it takes more effort to say irregardless than regardless, so your point is not very valid.

What makes the word regardless correct, ie what set of rules are you going by?
Just because a person was born here, does not mean that they should speak the same as everyone else.

If I were you, I wouldn't go to somewhere like Sheffield or Cornwall where English is spoken and pronounced different to how Londoners speak.
