woooow congratulations All the best for your wife and newborn and you lol !
I'll collect my cigar when I see you (Hopefully one day, still kicking myself for been away that time your visited ).
Thanks Serge. I was disappointed not to be able to meet you as well. Hopefully I will be able to visit Wellington again soon - I loved my last visit and want to see more of your beautiful country, especially the South Island.
only a chair lol , wait till your master starts applying human force to your arms while you hold that position. Also 45 min does sounds a bit over the top.
Jingshen, the tensing at the end of punches...from relaxed to tense...
I think it's to increase acceleration.
F = ma.
Force = mass x acceleration.
The clenching, tensioning of the fist accelerates, and shortens the time it takes to make contact. (ie, faster than your arm speed)
That's my guess~
(since mass doesnt change, increase acceleration = increased force) No idea...just theorising again~
EDIT: Ooops, sorry i was only up to page 44 at the time I couldnt help myself and registered to post. haha, this was mentioned a little later (page 45?)
Umm, I would like to say I think Millie is a not as silly as millie seems.
There were some things on "general tensioning" in wuzu discussed before, esp regarding samchien.
I think (I am very not sure about this, just personal musings) that during the form samchien, when you are doing the "sinking" (also during the following 3 moves), you are tensing your back muscles, but the downard "sinking" motion of your arms are stretching the tensed muscles (hence, a form of tensioning, body toning --> iron shirt exercise).
So in essense, everytime the form is played, you are developing iron shirt, all the while cultivating your gong, and disciplining your stance and combat techniques.
(No idea...please dont take these as facts...just...thoughts )
Are you a buddhist? Your "nothingness = enlightenment"...it's difficult for us to have a 100% cleaned mind. There will always be some stray thoughts.
We need to focus on 1 thing (breathing... or... Amitabah's name?, or I guess in this case...the martial art we study - which would in turn, lead back to breathing...), and when our minds become disciplined enough to hold only 1 unwavering thought, maybe then we can get a glimpse of what enlightenment is really like.
You are a student of Master Yap?
I have been told to do samchien 10 x per day. ^^"
I hope this doesnt offend anyone, as I know not everyone has this sort of belief. :P Anyway, again, just my thoughts.
I got a question for you guys and would like to hear your thoughts.
Why is our horse stance different from the "traditional" horse stance, in that we have our knees and toes pointing inwards?
Aside from developing strong and firm fighting stance, in sparring or combat point of view it helps keep our foot firmly rooted or anchor to the ground. Help against sweeping attack.
millie i'm sorry i cant answer your question, but I konghan or one of the others could!
(to be honest, I'm not too sure what the "men heaven and earth exercise" means. I also cannot think of an exercise where we use any form of lotus, full or half).
if the knee joint is struck at a 45 angle outwards/back from the inside in a normal ma bo position the knee joint will dislocate, in ngo cho horse and sanchin stance you protect against this attack.
you can also protect the groin from front kicks by tucking your ass in and keeping your spine straight in ngo cho horse stance.
it also developes the tendons and ligaments of the knee joint and allows a person to lower them selfs to ground level as in many ngo cho forms with out lose balance and then attack the groin and legs monkey style as in monkey sanchin, my turn for a question (less fooling around promise)
the lotus postion in the men heaven and earth exercise developes the nervous system in what way?
IMO, firstly I am no medical expert but the lotus stance, in fact the sam chien and other chien forms help develop the nervouse system by way of the posture that help stabilises the back and spinal system couple with breathing.
i spent a session in a sitting position with my back against the wall and my thighs are parreral with the the ground, my back is straight, my arms are in a metal block postion, with my elbows level with my shoulders. i have an egg between my elbows and a rugby ball between my knees. my feet grip the ground,my index finger nuckle is proud of my fist.
my tongue tips the roof of my mouth,
i am tired my legs are shaken.
the next day my legs are like lead i cant walk master smiles and offers me a stool
not to sit on but to hold up while i do the same thing for another hour
for 45 bucks an hour does anybody know is this worth the trouble?
every time i fell she smiled and said "again no foundation no house"
No, Millie, that is TRULY not worth the money. You are being ripped off.
