They have broken up and Shannon Lee is the one with all the control. Linda doesn't handle any of it anymore, except maybe some appearances. Shannon has become power hungry and is suing everyone that she can over JKD. She's even taken Inosanto to court over the use of the symbol. She's even trying to copyright the name Jeet Kune Do !

Thats so wrong! She was in diapers when everthng started. Talk about trying to cash in on someone elses fame. JKD wouldn't be around if it wasn't Dan Inosanto. What a biatch.
That's weird. I attended a JKD Nucleus seminar a few years ago.
Ted Wong, Tim Tackett, Bob Bremer, Pete Jacobs, Richard Bustillo, and Cass Magda were all there. Shannon Lee was a guest speaker. Why would she do this? Also she was a student of Ted Wong's at the time.
The problem with the self-destruction of the Nucleus is related more to its structure than ay individual. Many of its members could not travel regularly at their own expense (not everyone is making green off of Bruce Lee) to join the meetings. And being present at the meetings was the only way for individuals to have any sort of official impact on the group themselves. So, when people couldn't come to the meetings and the group didn't receive the cash they expected, the organization crumbled.
They were fairly heavy handed in the JKD world when they first splashed on the scene and many early JKD'ers refused to get involved due to the political mess that the group represented (including Dan Inosanto).
The Shannon Lee problem is essentially a case of a greedy looser attempting to milk every penny possible out of the image of dead relatives (Bruce and Brandon) under the guise of "protecting their image and preserving their memory."
The holding company that actually trademarked "Bruce Lee" and all associated images and terms (including JKD) is (I believe) "Half Moon Productions" or "Something Moon Productions" . . . sorry, can't quite remember. And yes the company is owned by Shannon Lee

because in theory the idea of a unifying body for JKD is a good idea.
That way it could monitor whos being qualified to teach Jun Fan JKD, and sort out some of the political crap thats around.
Last I heard, a couple of years back, the nucleus has self destructed.
The Nucleus didn't self destruct, there was simply a disagreement which set some members in different directions.
Linda, Shannon and some others wanted to keep the teachings of JFJKD and JFGungfu pure in other words they felt that no one had the right to make changes to JKD and call it Bruce Lee's JKD, that only Bruce Himself could do that, and went on teaching what Bruce Taught from the start of his teaching career, until the end of his life.
While Dan Inosanto and some others believed that Bruce always wanted evolution, and stressed that Bruce Himself didnt want to make his art JKD a law and didn't want to make it a style and so Dan started to teach JKD as Concepts to go along with other arts, feeling that people should cross train to find their own way, in a way taking Bruce Lee's JKD and letting others learn what worked for Bruce and make it their own.
Shannon copy righted JKD because too many people out there were taking the name and calling what they were teaching JKD saying things like they learnt from Bruce himself or whatever, using Bruce's name as a way to pull people into learning martial arts from them. She copyrighted the name to show people whether or not a person really did learn JKD from Bruce or from a trust worthy source.
Bruce Lee's JKD is now named "Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do" the name is now copyrighted which means unless you were Bruce Lee's direct student or a student of one of his direct students than you can't use the name that is Bruce Lee's Art of expressing himself/ Bruce's way.
The nucleus is now called "The Bruce Lee Foundation" Which consist of Linda, Shannon and a bunch of the first generation students that were directly taught by Bruce Lee, and a few second generation JKD students.
Than there is Dan Inosanto who teaches from his own academy unlike the Foundation he teaches JKD concepts above other martial arts.
NOW neither side is wrong and each of them are still friends, Dan's daughter is with the foundation!
One side is teaching what Bruce Taught in his lifetime, so if you want to learn what he made and only he made, than try and get in contact with the Bruce Lee foundation, while if you want to learn JKD and at the same time find a art you can make your own, seek out Dan's school.
It only makes you look ignorant to bash people and not know exactly what the details are!
Further more JKD was never ment to be a style, it was suppose to be a non traditional, free form of expressing, not a system to be followed as the creators way, but just a name that of course had more than just concepts behind it, the idea was always to find what was useful and discard what was useless, instead of finding things to add it was to chip away the things that weren't needed to make things more effective and more simple.
If you were to practice JKD it now wouldnt be Bruce Lee's JKD but now your own, unless you study JFJKD and only that, but than you would be following someone else's way and not your own which in Bruce's words would place yourself in a cage stunting your own growth.
She copyrighted the name to show people whether or not a person really did learn JKD from Bruce or from a trust worthy source.
Bullshit.
The Lee Estate - Linda, Shannon and a team of lawyers, filed a lawsuit against Guro Dan Inosanto and the Inosanto Academy of Martial Arts. The sole purpose of that lawsuit was to prevent Guro Inosanto using the names Jun Fan and Jeet Kune Do in any commericial context, and also removing his right to use the JKD symbol. After a lengthy court case, which stripped Guro Inosanto of his financial stability, built up from 30 years of tirelessly promoting the art of Linda Lee's husband, Shannon Lee's father, and the Estate's paycheck, the case ruled in favour of the Lee Estate. Guro Inosanto has since been unable to use the name Jun Fan or Jeet Kune Do in any commercial context, and has to now use the term "The Martial Legacy - The Intercepting Way".
Bruce Lee's JKD is now named "Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do" the name is now copyrighted which means unless you were Bruce Lee's direct student or a student of one of his direct students than you can't use the name.
Guro Dan Inosanto was a direct student of Bruce Lee in Jun Fan Gung Fu and Jeet Kune Do, and the only man ever certified to teach the art of Jeet Kune Do by Bruce Lee. So, tell me, how does that work? Actually, I'll tell you:
When I was training at the Inosanto Academy in 2002, Guro Dan showed me a letter from Linda Lee, written several years before. It was a letter written on behalf of the Lee family, thanking Guro Inosanto for three decades of devotion to the art of his good friend and teacher. The letter went on to say that he was always the man Bruce wanted to continue his teachings, and that he has done a wonderful job in maintaining the legacy of her late husband.
A few years later, she took him to court. Not only did she strip him of the right to teach his best friend's art, she also took away his family's financial security. What changed in those few years? I'm guessing it was green and had a president's face on it.
Jeet Kune Do can fall off the face of the planet as far as I'm concerned. I teach Inosanto Martial Arts, and am proud to do so. There is so much written on here about what Bruce Lee would and wouldn't have wanted. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have wanted his family to **** his best friend over for a few extra quid. But hey - when was the last time you went to a Shannon Lee seminar?
Bruce Lee certified three instructors: Dan Inosanto, Taky Kimura, and James Yimm Lee (no relation to Bruce Lee). James Yimm Lee, a close friend of Bruce Lee, died without certifying additional students. Taky Kimura, to date, has certified one person in Jun Fan Gung Fu: his son and heir Andy Kimura. All other instructors are certified under Dan Inosanto. Prior to his death, Lee told his then only two living instructors Inosanto and Kimura (James Yimm Lee had died in 1972.) to dismantle his schools. Both Taky Kimura and Dan Inosanto were allowed to teach small classes thereafter without using the name Jeet Kune Do.
As a result of a lawsuit between the estate of Bruce Lee (also known as Concord Moon) and the Inosanto Academy, the name "Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do" was legally trademarked, and the rights were given solely to the Lee estate. "The name is made up of two parts: 'Jun Fan' (Bruce’s given Chinese name) and 'Jeet Kune Do' (the Way of the Intercepting Fist). The development of Bruce Lee’s art from 1961 until the end of his life was one smooth and indivisible path. In the beginning, he referred to his teachings simply as Jun Fan Gung Fu. Later he further refined his art as a unique Gung fu all its own – Jeet Kune Do" (from the Bruce Lee Foundation Web site).
Some martial arts instructors, in an effort to promote themselves or their martial arts schools, make dubious claims about learning from or teaching Bruce Lee. There are only a few living people who can trace their lineage directly to Bruce Lee.
It is sorta backed up by the usage of Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do. And the fact that some schools still use JKD and Jun Fan.
The thing that strikes me. It's like the people who run around trashing the way other people train to make them self look good. It seems like a person could come to the conclusion that what the Lee estate is pushing is crap and since they knew it was crap they had to take Dan to court. Dan didn't get to where he is by putting people down. People eventually sought him out cause of what he is. I guess the nucleus couldn't. It's sad as talented as Bruce was Brandon was the only one with talent and decency.

Do you hold a grudge against Bruce Lee?
I would hope JKD doesn't fall of the face of the planet, but at the same time if what you are saying is really true, than that shit is f***ed up, honestly no I don't think Bruce would have wanted any of this, Dan was his friend, and so were the others Ted Wong, etc....
Besides Dan was one of Bruce's best friends I would think he wouldn't want Bruce's art to fall of the face of the planet either... =/
Honestly I had always wanted to train with Bruce but since I was born before he had passed away, I could never fulfill that dream, and so I've always wanted to learn from those whom learnt directly from him, and to learn what they learnt in hopes to create my own way with such a great art, but if what you have said is true, it seems like my dream of training with all the first generation students and so on, is starting to fall apart faster than i can grasp hold of it....
I Heard many times about the beef going on with the whole JKD world but i figured they were nothing more than rumors considering Dan's daughter is apparently part of the Bruce Lee Foundation which is run by Shannon...
Its honestly kind of sad....
But just because Linda and Shannon are doing whatever, I hope no one will bash Bruce Lee himself.
