No holds barred? Don't you think this was the way MOST martial artists fought in the old days?

      They lie....

Mitsuyo Maeda never studied "JUJUTSU"... He played a bit of SUMO before joining the Kodokan.

YOU said, "It was invented only for self defense. The sports aspect is simply a by- product that over time is what the rest of the world sees and focuses on."

I'm saying that's more bullshit. Fighting then, like now was a way to make money and entertain the audience... (SPORT)

        Might be the problem there.

I don't see anyone "hating" BJJ/GJJ... just hate the nuthuggers.

I've seen a lot of older books from the 60's and 70's in which the westernized version (ie jiu) is used. Why you guys are arguing over semantics (jiu vs ju) is beyond me. TTE, calling all the bjj fans nuthuggers when you're the biggest judo nuthugger is like the pot calling the kettle black and isn't judo a synthesis of Kano's studies of jujitsu anyway???

You are all off topic and missing the point. The real question is whether the correct spelling is "Wing Chun" or "Ving Tsun"!

In the real world, I've heard Brazilian Ju-Jitsu is terrible. Even with a background in knowing how to stand-up fight, how to properly block, ect...Is BJJ still inferior in the real world? I started taking BJJ to learn how to defend myself in jail, and on the street as a Police Officer, as well as other real-world applications, like defending against a mugging, anything like that...But i've read on other forums about how Aikido and Judo are predominantly better to learn over BJJ.

Anyone have any words of wisdom for me? Thanks alot.

                      ~D
BJJ will round out your abilities by teaching you how to fight from the ground.

BJJ alone won't be the solution to all of your self-defense issues, at all ranges and all situations - no art is.

Tell that to the Gracie family.

Impressive to those who bought the hype.

I received the package with the entire Gracie "combatives" system and book this morning.

I've only begun to scan it. So far I've learned there are NO defenses for strikes to the eyes or groin because according to the Gracies their research has shown bad guys punch you in the face...If you're having problems with a techniques they recommend your "attacker" read their chapter on how to be a proper bad guy.

This is all on the first page of the handbook. On page ONE they've already they've set the rules for your opponent in a street fight.

Arieson is right, people who bought into this crap are too stupid to be persuaded by anything resembling common sense.
