muay thai definitly. tkd really isnt that good.

"This guy was harassing me in the elevator so I decided to use some Tae Kwon Do on him. Unfortunately there wasn't enough room to perform my roundhouse, so I ended up getting my ass beat."

Hehe, I began in TKD and have my basis from TKD, but if you are refering to the WTF style TKD, then they would get their asses handed to them simply for the fact that they dont punch and they bounce when they spar(easy to knock them to the ground).

It's not just WTF style TKD,all TKD styles would lose against MuayThai and most other arts.

        No offense but TKD sucks.

You all would be very very very surprised. Dont go running your mouth about TKD when you dont even know how general the term is. Ill admit, most TKD is crap compared to Muay Thai, but somethings I have personally learned in other places recently would definitly surprise most people who would be very quick to judge. But, I gave the vote for MT mostly becuase I know you are talking about the stereotypical TKD stylis which would just be crushed.

Bwahahhahahha too funny, you know where my vote goes! It does depend on the individuals, but if equal skill, equally fit, Muay Thai will win unless the TKD guy gets lucky.

Oh brother.... don't you realise that ANY fighting system would get creamed by Muay Thai (assuming equal skill levels) if put into a Muay Thai rule set? DUH. Listen, how fast would Muay Thai get smoked if put into a BJJ rule set? Or a Judo rule set? Each art is going to dominate it's areas rules. Take Muay Thai out of it's format and put some restrictions on it and it would not fare any better than any other art trying to go into Muay Thai's rule set. Judging arts based on how well it does in a Muay Thai format when that art doesn't even train for that format is ridiculous.

Damian Mavis, hehe, dude didnt you know that if you were to have a Muay Thai vs Kung fu but only no elbows, knees to the head etc were allowed then it wouldnt be Muay Thai vs Kung fu but rather a Muay Thai "fighter" fighting another guy who uses Kung Fu! yeah?

If you are to have a fair fight then you should be allowed to impliment all techniques used, excluding the very dangerous ones. To demonstrate a style then you must use that style with no limitations. Thais do not see European Thai Boxing as Muay Thai, they do not see it as Muay Thai but rather guys who are trained in Muay Thai fighting a watered down version. Muay Thai is the science of the 8 (was 9) limbs, now if you cannot use all eight then its not Muay Thai.

                      BJJ, shootfighting....

check out these techniques taught by Muay Thai masters throughout Thailand then tell me if BJJ would still win easilly.

Muay Thai didnt just earn the reputation as the Ultimate martial art for nothing! Other systems have been fighting against Muay Thai for over 50-60 years and 80% of the time they have always lost and the few times they had victories was because they used muay Thai techniques, and this has nothing to do with the rules because to be honest the rules in Thailand are very few... its a real fight.

Forms of kickboxing are being dress in Muay Thai clothing around the world, inexperienced teachers are teaching bad standards of Muay Thai and thus sending a negative view of the art of Muay Thai.

Just curious, does real Muay Thai teach any discipline or respect (I am learning the "watered down" version)?

S.Anucha, dude you don't have to sell me on Muay Thai... hell I'm moving to Thailand to continue my fight career and hopefully turn pro. I love Muay Thai and know all it's strengths.

BeCubic06, yes real Muay Thai teaches discipline and respect but it greatly depends on the camp. Some camps I've seen are big on discipline but little respect and others were the opposite and others had both! It can vary but traditionally it is supposed to be there.

That wasn't the question though, put restrictions on anything, and the game changes. You just can't judge it like that, look at the way TKD trains, and the way Muay Thai trains....... no question.

Some MT camps will learn you some Wai Kru which is a means of paying respect to your instructor and the elders of Muay Thai. Others probably dont bother though.
