If some guy was threatening me with physical harm right then and there you bet my first response is not going to be get in fighting stance, put hands up, etc. etc. It's going to be Draw, take weapon off safety, aim and asses threat.

Either ur some stupid punk (99% chance) who cant fight for shit and wants to hide behind the argument that stick an stones will break your bones but a Gat will kill u quicker or your a serial killer .I've heard of an seen 2 times when a gun was pulled out an a guy was shot but it was for a bit more than an argument. If your in the "business" you dont shoot people for small things unless your an idiot. Most "bad" people I know or my associates know will most definatly resort to clubbing or stabbing a guy than shooting a guy (even to the knee cap) because cops take those offences less seriously and a gun leaves behind more evidence.

      • Ravin,

I'm not saying that you should always use a gun. I'm just saying that you should always be ready for worst case scenario. Also you need right tool for right job. I wouldn't use empty hand against a guy with a handgun. Call me a pussy, i don't care, but to me that's just stupid. Also, in general, yes a gun is more traceable(depending on the gun and whats been done to it), but it depends on the situtation. These days with DNA testing, you have to be really "clean" to get into a hand to hand situation with someone and not leave evidence. By The Way, I'm not the kind of person who needs to hide evidence anyway, I'm not in the "Business", I'm just a law-abiding citizen who chooses to practice his 2nd amendment rights as written by the founing fathers of the US constitution to be able to protect oneself by using my right to bear arms.

MMA, It combines a mix of various diciplines so for sure it's the closest to street fighting!
But what is the single Martial Art on its own that's closest to effectivness in a street fight!

anyways... then, bare hand wise - boxing.

have you ever try kicking with jeans? or would you seriously take a bar fight to the ground? so yea.

Yeah I kicked with jeans ones (low kick) and it did the job! as for bar fights, I don't normally go to that kind of bars... and I avoid bare hand boxing, it's very easy to break your hands... not that wise!!

                  • you have to understand if you punch without padding, you can get boxers break in your hands...hence it has been suggested to use palms to punch "on the street". hence...are u learning an art for self D, confidence...or to street fight? as they are different. and it's not something you can ever replicate. go fight on the street if that's what you want, it's the only way you can learn right?

everyone has their favourite. i prefer MT, but that's only me. I have TKD experience and i never really enjoyed it. i think this is important as you can never be good without enjoying it.

to answer ur ques, i've seen a MT vcs. TKD fight and the MT guy won right out...so its everyones personal preference. but tbh u need to fight on the street to be able to cope with stree fighting, not in agym somewhere

                      • ok , this thread is ridiculous...and most of the comments ( 99.9% ) are not legit at all. OK - Lets be real now.. Street fights consist of ( 90% ) throwing your hands in any direction possible as fast as you can , trying to get the guy on the floor so you can land 100 punches in a minute or stomp the guy out. every street fight ive ever seen looked like what i just described and im sure you all can agree with me. OK - as for martial arts and using it in a " street fight " i belive that before you decide to take an MA seperate the styles that are not practical/fancy from the ones that are combative/sport/mma ( MORE PRACTICAL )

Practical - JKD , Boxing , MT , Ground fighting , grappling . there are a few more im sure but i will have to do some more research if any one is interested.

In a street fight , its usually always just hands if no weapons are involved. alot of times a street fight is messy and the people throwing the dukes dont know how to fight at all. People over look and under estimate MA when it comes to street. For instance , somone who trains in a combative MA/sport would have more of a chance of kicking somones a$$ in a SF. it all depends on the person fighting. could be a great fighter. could be a decent fighter. but my point being is that somone who is trained in a COMBAT MA has more of a chance of defedning them selves in the street using whatever tools they gained throught training. weather it be confidence , stregnth or whatever.
As for weapons...somone pulling guns or knives...MA does not turn you into a god! if your in a situation like that you need to fend for your self.. use your strongest weapon.. your brain.. run !? or use a weapon if your life is in risk. do what you need to do to evade.

to conclude my statements , simply ... if you can move , if you can throw a clean punch/kick , if you are conditioned and most of all , confident you will have an upper hand as a fighter and in the street if needed.

The only systems, which solve the problems, are specially developed hand-to-hand military systems, And you can’t learn that in fancy Sportclub in Manhattan or in a basement of a private house. The key for us, simple folks are the mind set. My long time friend and brilliant kickboxing coacher (not a Teacher) always said: Good fiddler will beat bad Karate master. SO, train, train, and train. And we have to remember-what makes your art or stile real is intent.
P.S. I’m surprised you put Sambo in the same group as wrestling. Can you explain why?
