Liu he ba fa is pretty big in Taiwan, if I'm not mistaken.
So why internal gong-fu, rather than external?
Why ba gua or xing yi instead of say five-animals?

My knowledge in these arts are very limited.

Nope Baqua is a totally different art unto itself, its just the most capable of dealing with multiple opponents and grapples (of the internal styles) since thats what it was designed for.

In a nutshell, Hsin yi is the straight line forward and backward smashing component that targets the temple and floating ribs (4 fist one palm).

Baqua is the evasive stepping and limb breaking aspect (8 palms NO fist) while Taiji tends to be a little of each (4 palms one fist) with most of its emphasis on teaching you to attack the upper and lower body simultaneously through attacking the opponents attack. When they all flow together it becomes similar to 6 Method 8 direction boxing or Lui he Ba Fa (however it has it's own principles and forms) its sometimes mistaken for Water style Baqua.

Do you know how hard it is to pick someone up over your head while in a triangle choke and not drop them pack down, but push or slam them back down?

Even if you are very strong, its still hard to do. Its something you need to practice. Its kind of like doing a Clean and Jerk weight lift. Arona just didnt underhook Jackson's leg because just like you said, he was too focused on his sub and controlling Rampage's wrist so he couldnt strike him.

I agree with everything else youre saying on this thread except ^ this.

You not only become impervious to knife attacks, but you can suplex resisting attackers who have knives and hold them hostage in parking lots and highway rest stops!

    Go get em', Bunny!
Definitely one of the top 10 stories designed to impress a Denny's waitress, even they would laugh though.

Apparently you missed the story of the soldier who GOT UP after being attacked from behind and taken down and killed the guy who was trying an arm lock...he received a silver medal for that action. Oh but thats a warrior not a sports fan.

While Ricardo Arona is a better grappler than ANYONE on this forum, underhooking the leg isnt something you have to be on his level to know. That is all he had to do to prevent Rampage from molesting him. It's really... really not complicated at all... so this getting slammed by someone is easily avoidable... the question is if you remember to do it, which obviously Arona didnt.

Second, not everyone is Rampage, a man described by Matt Lindland as having "Insanely powerful hips" now lindland being a olympic silver medalist in wrestling and rampage not having wrestled in highschool, you'd think Lindland would put quinton down with no problem, when they fought this wasnt the case.

The point is not everyones like, or even close to Rampage in terms of strength/hip strength/slamming ability. And you dont have to be a ADCC champ to underhook a leg.

I dont care about the rest of your argument, just wanted to point out this isnt a valid point.
Its very valid in terms of BJJ's not wanting to let go of subs once they have it slapped on. I've always said that a BJJ fighter looks for chokes and subs, and if they lose one they look for another. They hold on hoping to get the desired effect and lose awareness of the fact that the other guy might just be able to pull out his own ace. And Arona isn't the first this has happened to. It has also happened to Carlos Newton as well.

And regardless of your assessment of Rampage's hips, many people are strong enough to pick up and man who's holding on and slam him back down. Maybe that seems like it takes "insane" strength to you, but not everybody is weak and frail.

    King of Comedy

Ladies and gentlemen, the comedy stylings of pUke the clown!

See his transparent fear of skills he lacks!

Watch him repeat the same tired old assumptions over and over!

Thrill as he makes a fool of himself over and over!

    Funny stuff!!!

    Enjoy:

What's funny here is that what you really need is what pukes like pUke don't have because instead of training long and hard to get the skills and experience you need, he attended a one-day seminar and got a nifty T-shirt that proves he's all set! Funny, funny stuff!
