what a bummer. but at the same time, it may have saved the nation. islam was a unifying force for the country when saddam invaded it. so many people were so willing to give their lives for their homeland and their belief in god that there werent even enough weapons for them all, many would go to the frontlines empty handed, eager to do anything they can to repel saddams army. war is a touchy subject in iran, cause the war was brutal as hell and there were children, grandfathers, and fathers all fighting and dying next to eachother.

it also sucks that the entire world supported and armed saddam hussein when he invaded iran. syria was the only country that supported iran. and even though iran didnt even have an army at the time because of the revolution, they were able to repel the invasion after much bloodshed. thousands and thousands of iranian troops died agonizing deaths by nerve gass used by iraq, supplied by the international community. used every single day for long periods, and everyone turned a blind eye to it including our government.

It is difficult trying to explain Islam to non-Muslims. The first reason is because in general Muslims have gone away from their religion so their is a lot of confusion on what Islam is and how most Muslims are.

Another thing is that I am Muslim but I am no scholar so I cannot discuss things I do not know.

I would echo mike brewers comments above 100%.

However, trying to see the other point of view, youd have to think that its possible they would view the actions of the israeli army as the actions of jews.
And the actions of the UK and USA as the actions of Christians. From their point of view. Doesnt help when Bush says hes going on a crusade as he put it. At the time of the gulf wars in the UK their was a big stink about it being a religious war etc. of course thats complete nonsense but i think its how the extremist muslims see it.

So while we allow more freedom in our expression they may be behaving accordingly given the fact they feel entire armies are stacked agaisnt them.

The real motivating factor?
There was a documentary once in the UK where they interviewed a large section of IRA prisoners, lets remember that was a religious war in ireland as well. The outcome was that in the vast majority of cases they neither particularly beleived in the territory they were fighting for nor cared much for the relgious difference they had with their neighbours.
The no1 motivating factor, once past all the bullshit,was a sense of having a cause to fight for and the friendship and team spirit that went with it.

It was a very interesting report showing how being the underdog is such a binding factor as it is in POW camps etc and the unconditional loyalty and comaraderie that is essentially tribal. Nothing bonds people better than a common enemy.

I haven't posted here since everyone else decided to reply with opinion as opposed to facts. So, weeks later, you mention my name because you can't find anyone else here who is intelligent enough to even carry on this dialogue.

Truth is, I stopped posting here on this topic because every attempt to make the point that the history of Islam is not riddled with the same forced indoctrination as Christianity is was met with the unfounded accusation that I was trying to say that Islam was totally exempt from violence and didn't have faults like EVERY OTHER RELIGION. That's not what I said or implied, but you have a habit of accussing other of saying things that they didn't so that we waste time denying the accusations instead of making the points.

I could go on to school you all day and every single day about Islam, Christianity and Judaism Mike Brewer, because I actually study and spend time learning, not preaching the agenda based bullshit that you do. I am not a muslim, but I do not need to lie so that I can sleep at night either.

People like you need to attack and include true Islam in with fanatical extremism to try to justify all the women and children that die by your rifle. Once one understands that people like you have to learn to live with yourself and what you've done or contributed to, then your adamant display of ignorance isn't so puzzling.

I have trained with Mr Brewer in JKD/Kali/PFS and I thought his skills and teaching were superb. I consider myself knowledgeable enough in this area to make an informed judgement, I won’t get into dick measuring here - if you want to know my credentials drop me a line. If you have a beef with Mike that’s your call, but don’t drag Sifu Paul Vunak’s name down just to make a cheap point - its been done to death.
