  • I finally done a two mile run in 11 minutes 43 seconds, its something I have been working on for bloody ages.
Had a very, very bad stitch, but its all good.
Now see if I can get the time down any.

    • Wow great time Sean!!!

Today instead of the powerclean WOD, I decided to work out with this crazy m.f. for about a half hour. He kept saying things like, "Come on! Twenty more! I know you can do it!" He pushed me about five zillion times harder than I ever push myself... We started with bench press drop sets, followed by some lat and shoulder work and way too much bicep/tricep work with dumbells. I am so sore already and I'm sure tomorrow will suck more, but I really want to go to cardio kickboxing.

I practiced scaling an indoor cliff yesterday.

I got some instruction in securing my harness, attaching the load bearing line etc. Then I signed a waiver and there I went.

The wall was about 70 feet high. I made it up about half-way, didn't look down, then climbed back down. Forearms were pretty tight, but I seemed to take to it quite well. You've got to use your legs in conjunction with your arms. I scaled about half-way up and down again two more times. It was nice.

          I ran a 6:45 mile

lifted some weights (bench press, arm curls, dips, shoulder press, low rows)

          Called it a day.

I'm going to start doing the guerilla runs that the others were suggesting. I'm also going to look into cross fit.

            Nice job, Seany!

How long did it take you to get under a 12 min 2-mile run? (and please don't answer 11 min 43 sec )

            • Ooh, that sounds fun. There's an indoor climbing gym in town I've been meaning to check out.

I slept something like ten hours after yesterday's workout. Maybe I really will take today off. Though there is gonna be free yoga and qi gong in the park, I think I can maybe handle stretching, ha ha.

              • Its taken about two years to get it down from 16 minutes.
I go through phases, where sometimes I'll run three/four a week for two months. Then go off it, and just want to go on the pads.
                Then back to running.

LOL, I would do rock climbing for the conditioning, but I am scared of heights.

You should really try it. I used to be scared of heights until I started climbing. I still get a bit queasy looking off ledges in really tall buildings, but the buildings are shorter than the height I've climbed and felt good at. I realized it was really unsecured heights I was scared of. I bet you that once you learn your equipment and how to be secure in it, that feeling goes away. So when you're 100 ft up in the air you can say, "I know I'm not going to fall because I did three safety checks. Anchor, belt, caribeners, devices. Get some extra eights. Get a really really good safety instructor. I had one that made us do a safety check and start over if we were interrupted in the middle of it, and if you stepped on the rope you owed your instructor anything he said. Don't smoke or wear sunscreen near the rope, don't use dropped 8's that might have microfractures, etc. and you'll be fine.

                  • Now rock climbing is something I wouldn't do... the risk of falling to my death is a motivator enough...

I have been skydiving though, but that's a whole nother thing..

I'm a beginner, but like Tree said I think its in the equipment & safety.

Also never climb more than you can handle. It takes decent grip, forearm, shoulder and leg strength - so listen to your body, that's why I only climbed 30 feet then descended. I'm gonna work on it though when I can find a few minutes of free time.

                      • What's your workout today Tom? Trying to decide on one myself. Still nursing the baseball-size bruises and my sore neck from getting out of all those headlocks.

                            .13 mile 1:05
                            15 pull-ups
                            11 push-ups

                            11 push-ups
                            15 pull-ups
                            .12 mile :52
                            total: 9 minutes
                            (+ 3-min cooldown (.17 mile) and 5 min stretching)

I cheated and used the machine for pullups where you put your knees on the pads and it helps you up a bit... Still working on that upper body strength a bit.

Climbed the wall. I cut time in 1/2 and got up to 40 feet, where I met a jutting edge that was hard to scale. Rappeled down, then did the climb 2 more times.

                                Ran 1 mile 6:42

                                Jogged to central workout area

                                13 pullups
                                60 pushups
                                20 divebombers
                                20 dips
                                9 chinups
                                25 step-ups (30" ledge)
                                Horse stance (2:00)

                                Jogged back to track

                                1/2 mile 3:27

                                Stretched out...
