Why does the record of the event bother you so?

Doesn't particularly bother me. People get hurt fighting all the time, sometimes they even die. I do find it interesting though that the "killed" part seems to be so important to you. It almost seems that you cling to this event (sufficiently distant in time as to be unverifiable) to justify the "too deadly" bit. That's certainly how Ponytail Boy leaned on it when he was here.

So far you haven't known his first lesson, what his students call him or the names of your senior classmates.

My first lesson was working through part of the first form. We did not theorize or philosophize at all.

All of his students addressed him as 'Sifu' when I was there.

The senior students when I was there were his son and four or five other folks from the area. Not a Dan, Jerry, or Joseph in sight.


As I've said before, I'm a wrestler. I was grateful for the experience and I practice the forms I was taught now and again, but despite his urging I really did not keep up with taijiquan as the focus of my martial training (which I suppose is regretable). I consider it an honor to have known him and learned from him, for which I will always be grateful. I have experienced enough to know when someone is making bullshit exaggerrations or putting taijiquan down out of ignorance. I'm not sure if this makes you so defensive because the closest your 'master' has ever gotten to the origin of his art is the Chinese takeout place on the corner, or because I can and will call you on your silly hyperbole when needed and you have nothing but memorizing your tai chi trading cards to support your demands of obedience and adoration.

And you haven't told me why you are so desperate to defend your legend. Are you afraid that your training would somehow be less legitimate if no one were actually killed during that tournament? I don't think that reasonable, but you sure seem to have some issue over it.

It's your lack of knowledge of the lineage of the system you claim to have studied that amazes me, whether you believe the records doesn't effect my life at all. There are multiple texts that list the participants and results of each contest in the tournament and if you'd ever studied the arts history and development you'd know that too. There is far more documentation of the 1928 tournament than there is to any of your BS stories of suplexing people in knife fights or being State wrestling champ, or that you studied under a man you don't seem to know jack shit about.

If you'd actually studied with Uncle Chen you'd know one of the people from the lineage you claim won one of the divisions and you'd know the story, because they're quite proud of it. Interesting how desperate you are to believe the "too many were being killed!" bit. When you eventually admit that you can't prove any such killings during this tournament, you will be left with "they were afraid someone would be killed" and finally just "injuries." Why not just leave it at that from the outset and not make yourself look like a silly drama queen? Could it be that you have to have this legend of the past to justify exaggerrated claims of 'deadliness' and whatnot instead of being satisfied with hard work and natural ability?
