  • With all do respect!

    MTF,
I have the utmost respect for the art of Muay Thai, however MT fighters have been publicly defeated in open forum by other stand up fighters...you may wish to watch a video called "Fighting Black Kings" it is a documentary of a World Championship Kumite (open to all styles) and hosted by Oyama!
The Muay Thai fighters did well but did not last the duration ultimately loosing to a Kyukoshin fighter. Also, Benny Urquidez defeated a few Japanese MT fighters...he even used his Karate/TKD based kickboxing style (landing spinning kicks and all)!
No disrespect, but winning and losing are only temporary forces of circumstance...I believe that some styles are superior to others in certain forums but the practitioner plays a major role!

PS: Thai soldiers practiced TKD! (now to you THAT might suck)

    TAEKWON!

I've heard of that challenge. I never saw any of the footage, etc. so I am curious. I heard that in Oyama's day, the boxing skills of the kyokushin karateka were more developed. Was that the case in the challege?

If that is not the case, then I have a hard time believing kyokushin (while I think it is a pretty good standup art) would dominate MT as the kyokushin I have seen have a clear lack of boxing ability, and also do not allow throws.

What were the rules for the fights?

I watched some kyokushin guys fight a group of Drunken Boxers. The drunken boxers were utterly hopeless striking fighters. It was ridiculous. However, they would frequently catch their opponents legs, and have to drop them, because it was against the kyokushin rules. I wonder if the ridiculously horrid drunken boxers would have actually had the upper hand in a fight situation because the kyokushin karateka looked baffled when their legs were caught.

Yes, Damian, I understand that those are the rules, and from their point of view, other rules look funny and all the rest of that politically correct stuff that I know is brewing in your head. I also know I am off topic.

I was just using the above example to make a point as to why I find it hard to believe that the kyokushin karateka could dominate the MT Fighters, considering the MT fighters are adept boxers, can throw, and have the addition of knees and elbows to their arsenal.

      • to be frank...its not muay thai, its what the thai boxers underwent, all those hard training, all those jogging, stretching, sweating their ass out and whatever.if someone from someother style were to train as hard as these guys did then i suppose it wont be a 1 sided match...for this the thai boxers get my respect...a style is just a style, its the fighter that really counts(and im not talking about tai-chi)

        • Muaythaifighter, sorry I havent replied recently, I've been too busy training in Thailand and using TAE KWON DO to get the better of my opponents! haha... sigh, anyway, dude... do you even know what the TKD ruleset is? How can you say Muay Thai would beat them at a TKD ruleset when Muay Thai isn't allowed to use it's strengths (no grabbing, no grappling, no elbows, no knees, no leg kicks, no uppercuts, no hook punches, and depending on the federation NO FULL CONTACT!)? Pro fighters from Muay Thai have entered olympic style TKD tournaments and lost REALLY BADLY here in Thailand. Get your facts before just spout what you WISH to be true.

TKD will lose whether following Muay Thai rules or their rules when competeing against us because TKD SUCKS. TKD guys do not know how to spar they only know their little fancy spin kicks in the air which do shit. A muay thai fighter won't lose against a TKD person or any other stand up art because Muay Thai is the BEST for stand up fighting and has been proven over and over again but still there are many TM that are so jealous of us MuayThai fighters.Facts are Facts.
Even though I have great respect for Muay Thai and have adopted a lot from it, I have no respect for people bad mouthing other arts.
By the way, I am not a TKD practitioner, but your comments are just plain idiotic and arrogant.

Don't act like you know what you are talking about, because you know shit.

You need to get your facts straight not me.

Actually moron Muay Thai is allowed to use grabbing(clinche), elbows, knees, leg kicks, uppercuts, hook punches where the hell do you get this information.Muay Thai was the first style that came up with using knees and elbows so it wouldn't make sense if they couldn't use it in tournaments.Other styles only started to incorporate our type of kicks(with shins),knees and elbows when they saw how effective Muay Thai fighters were so don't talk to me about facts when you don't know what the **** you are talking about.Another thing Muay Thai fighters only fight FULL CONTACT,they don't believe in point sparring so even against TKD fighters chances are we would use it all.If not allowed we can still beat them with our shin kicks, because those flying jump kicks of yours will do nothing in a tournament against Muay Thai fighters.

If you TKD guys use knees or elbows it is only because your school or style has started to incorporate the kicks and elbows of Muay Thai.

You really need to know what Muay Thai is and what they do before trying to make a point and argue about Muafy Thai vs.TKD,because as far as I am concerned you make no sense.

                • Damian I don't think MuayThaiFighter can read very well, since it clearly stated that you were talking about using TKD rules. I'd still have to agree that MT would win though.

                    • Anyone heard of Master Toddy!

                      Dear Mr. TKD SUX,

Being the Muay Thai enthusiast that you are, I assume that you have heard of Master Toddy(?)...Well then I am sure you know of his abilities as afighter and now as a trainer. Would you be accepting of the fact that he was first a TKD black belt whom has been quoted as stating that his TKD base helped him become the fighter he was.
Furthermore, if TKD is so weak then why during the Vietnam War did Thailand request that the Oh Do Kwan (TKD DOJANG) in the RoK, send TKD instructors?
Finally, why does the Thai military currently teach TKD as the H2H system as opposed to Muay Thai...I belive that there are differences in the arts not that one is superior, however, I feel obligated comment on your undocumented and some what uninformed speculation regarding the art of TKD!

                      TAEKWON!

MUAYTHAIFIGHTER: MAYBE I SHOULD USE ALL CAPS SO THAT YOU DON'T FURTHER MISUNDERSTAND?....... go back and reread, we were talking about Muay Thai fighters going into a TKD ruleset, that means that Muay Thai fighters DO NOT get to use the techniques I listed (THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED IN A TKD RULESET, GET IT?), in other words doesn't get to use most of their strenghts... make sense? If you don't understand yet well.... I don't know how to better explain. Somehow you inferred that I was saying Muay Thai didn't have these techniques to begin with? I forgive you your outburst since it was based on misunderstanding but I'd think by now you would know from my previous posts that I know exactly what is involved in Muay Thai. Especially since I train it professionally in Thailand?

Spooky, I don't know were you got that info about the Thai military learning TKD as its hand to hand training, they learn some of the strikes from it but they learn tons more that looks nothing like TKD. I train under one of the instructors for the Thai military.

bleeding! hhahahahahaha!! LOL Benny the Jet is alot like Dale Cook he fights broken down has beens (or never wases) and calls them world champions! TKD for the most part is a pathetic style. Rigid and immobile. Useless on the ground! And does little to address real world self defense! PS I used bounce (with Breathless and he is a pus! ) and I have seen a local TKD teacher get schooled by the a local YMCA boxer! hahahahhah

Ya sorry bud about that it's not until I wrote what I did and re-read it that I realized you didn't mean what I thought you said.First time I just read it really quickly sorry bud.

I agree that it would seem weird for a Muay Thai fighter to be in any tournament including TKD if he is unable to use most of what he trains in.However I believe a properly trained Muay Thai fighter could still knock out a TKD person under any circumstance.Since we kick alot with our shins and mostly to the inner and outer thigh and back of knees,we could easily do some damage just before those TKD guys go do their fancy jump spin kicks or even as soon as they land on ground again after all what goes up must come down.

Jump spin kicks in air have no power, shin round house kicks do.

Take out a TKD's main weapon, which are his legs and fight is over and you as a Thai fighter come out the winner.
